The Port of Los Angeles handled 887,357 TEUs of containers in April 2022, down 6.3%, incurring its first year-on-year contraction since December of last year but having the second-best April in its 115-year history. April 2022 loaded imports reached 456,670 TEUs, a decrease of 6.8% but 17% higher than the five-year April average of 390,000 TEUs. Loaded exports came in at 99,878 TEUs, a 12.7% decrease. Exports have declined 38 of the last 42 months at the port. Empty containers reached 330,810 TEUs, down 3.4%. Four months in to 2022, the port has processed more than 3.5 million TEUs, 1% ahead of last year's record pace.
