The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) of Japan’s Hokuriku Regional Development Bureau has verified the technology of high-efficiency unit-load terminals in preparation for introducing automated chassis management at ports. The bureau has found out ahead of others in Japan that the technology is accurate enough to be put into practical application in terms of managing comings and goings at chassis gates, detecting chassis damage and managing chassis locations in yards. When the technology is introduced at unit-load terminals for ferries and Ro/Ro ships for automated chassis operations, it is expected that time for having chassis pass gates, confirming acceptances and managing chassis in yards will be reduced. Burdens on manned operations are also projected to lesson.
