The total volume of containerized shipments moved in both directions between South Korea and China fell 4% year on year to 208,700 TEUs in February, according to statistics compiled by the Yellow Sea Liner Shipping Council (YSLSC). Due to the Lunar New Year holidays, container trade between the two nations took a downturn from the previous month, when it surged 12%.

In February, exports from South Korea to China ballooned 16% to 93,900 TEUs. In contrast, imports from China to South Korea plunged 19% to 99,800 TEUs. Shipments transported on the route in feeder services were brisk, growing 9% to 15,000 TEUs.

From the beginning of the year, a total of 528,400 TEUs were carried between the economies in January-February, up 7.4% from the corresponding two months of last year. South Korea exported 197,300 TEUs to China, up 12%, and imported 296,700 TEUs from China, down 0.3%. Feeder containers were robust in the first two months as well, soaring 11% to 34,300 TEUs.
