Containerized shipments traded between South Korea and eight other Asian economies amounted to 318,300 TEUs in February, going down 7.7% from the 344,800 TEUs moved on the same route a year ago. It was the first time in three months, or since November 2021 that they had suffered a year-on-year contraction. In January-February, 645,200 TEUs were transported, down 1.7% from the corresponding two months of last year.

In February, container trade on the route shrank in both directions, with South Korea exporting 158,300 TEUs, down 1% from a year earlier, and imported 146,600 TEUs, down 7%. By trade partner, shipments to and from Vietnam and Thailand both decreased, going down 3% to 97,400 TEUs and 7% to 41,900 TEUs, respectively. In contrast, those to and from Indonesia improved 6% to 41,500 TEUs.
