Trade ports in China processed 24.16 million TEUs of containers in January, which only increased 1.6% from the same month of 2021, the nation’s Ministry of Transport (MOT) has unveiled. Coastal ports handled 21.58 million TEUs, which grew 2%, while inland river ports were responsible for 2.57 million TEUs, which decreased 1.9%.

Turning to volumes at some major ports, 4.35 million TEUs were moved to and from Shanghai, up 7.8%, which was a new monthly record. Ranked second was Ningbo-Zhoushan, which processed 2.97 million TEUs, up 2%. Finishing in third place, Shenzhen processed 2.97 million TEUs, down 9.3%.
