The total volume of containerized shipments moved between South Korea and Japan in 2021 decreased 0.7% from the previous calendar year to 2,843,343 TEUs, according to the Korea Nearsea Freight Conference (KNFC).

Exports and imports totaled 1,760,114 TEUs, up 1.4%. Containers from South Korea to Japan shrank 0.4% to 985,899 TEUs, but those from Japan to South Korea swelled 3.9% to 774,215 TEUs.

Feeder cargo freighters were responsible for 310,431 TEUs, up 2.1%, transporting 169,481 TEUs from South Korea to Japan, up 6.2%, 140,950 TEUs from Japan to South Korea, down 2.4%.

Transshipment (T/S) containers accounted for 772,798 TEUs, down 4.2%, which consisted of 474,801 TEUs from South Korea to Japan, down 3.9%, and 297,997 TEUs from Japan to South Korea, down 4.6%.
