Container exports from 10 major countries and regions of Asia to the U.S. in October picked up 2.8% from the same month of last year to 1,824,724 TEUs in total, according to American research company Descartes Datamyne. A year-on-year improvement was made for the 16th consecutive month, which led to setting a new monthly record for October. From the beginning of the year, 17,165,174 TEUs were moved on the route in January-October, up 23.9% from a year earlier.

By origin, China exported 1,181,362 TEUs, up 5.3%; South Korea, 161,809 TEUs, down 11.8%; Taiwan, 102,813 TEUs, up 22.4%; Vietnam, 99,165 TEUs, down 19.8%; and India, 75,441 TEUs, up 36.6%. Exports from Japan plunged 24.9% to 27,014 TEUs, finishing in 10th place.

Meanwhile, inbound containers from the U.S. to the 10 leading economies of Asia fell 10.6% to a total of 418,481 TEUs in September. In the first nine months, they amounted to 4,359,429 TEUs, down 1.1%.

By destination, imports to China went down 22.6% to 132,985 TEUs; to Japan, down 0.4% to 52,365 TEUs; to South Korea, down 4.1% to 49,480 TEUs; to India, up 11.1% to 44,164 TEUs; to Taiwan, down 9.4% to 33,113 TEUs; and to Vietnam, down 12.4% to 30,294 TEUs.
