Container exports from Japan to the U.S. ballooned 22.8% to 45,763 TEUs in September, marking a year-on-year increase for the third month in a row, American research company Descartes Datamyne has announced. From the previous month, however, there was a decrease of 12.4%.

Direct shipments from Japan to the U.S. accounted for 30,011 TEUs, up 0.7%. By port of origin, containers from Tokyo accounted for 12,490 TEUs, down 12%; from Nagoya, 9,410 TEUs, up 11.6%; from Kobe, 6,730 TEUs, up 16%; from Yokohama, 478 TEUs, up 75.1%; and from Shimizu, 368TEUs, down 24.6%.

Meanwhile, the remaining 15,752 TEUs were moved on the trade via transshipment in third countries and regions. South Korea was responsible for 11,014 TEUs, up 112.1%; China, 2,379 TEUs, up 164.9%; and Taiwan, 700 TEUs, up 11.5%.
