The Port of Osaka handled 1,029,696 TEUs of foreign-trade containers in the first half (January-June) of this year, which swelled 2% from the corresponding six months of 2020, according to preliminary statistics. Exports of loaded containers accounted for 204,797 TEUs, up 10%, and imports, 558,692 TEUs, up 5%, for a total of 763,489 TEUs, up 6%. Meanwhile, empty containers totaled 266,207 in export and import total, down 7%.

In June alone, Osaka processed a total of 125,585 TEUs of full containers, up 1% from a year earlier. Outbound containers grew 9% to 33,943 TEUs, but incoming containers shrank 1% to 91,642 TEUs. Empties to and from the port amounted to 47,638 TEUs, which incurred a double-digit contraction of 18%.
