Ocean Network Express Japan (ONE Japan) recently provided up-to-date information on congestions at U.S. West Coast ports. As of May 14, some 20 containerships were forced to be anchored offshore in San Pedro Bay, where the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach are located, it said. ONE Japan added that the situation had not improved over the last five weeks. Currently, shipping services catering Los Angeles and/or Long Beach are being suspended or skipping the twin ports one after another.

At Los Angeles and Long Beach terminals, cargo loading and unloading are being delayed due to insufficient dockworkers. Shippers are, as such, being advised to pick up their commodities as soon as they can.

The backlog of shipments destined to U.S. inland destinations is becoming smaller than it was worst. Nevertheless, they have been staying unprocessed at the ports for a long time now, or for 10 to 30 days. As a consequence, concern is being arisen over a shortage of railroad chassis for moving them to inland locations, according to ONE Japan.
