Outbound containers from Japan to China decreased 1.7% to 677,788 tons in February, recording their first year-on-year contraction in eight months, according to the Japan Maritime Center (JMC). In terms of value, however, they swelled 4.3% to ¥633.7 billion, enjoying a year-on-year increase for three months in a row.

In clear contrast, inbound containers from China to Japan skyrocketed 111.6% to 1.611,576 tons, achieving their first year-on-year improvement in 10 months, or since April 2020, the JMC said, referring to trade statistics provided by the Ministry of Finance (MOF). On a value scale, they grew an even more remarkable 152.4% to ¥1.02 trillion. They also registered their first year-on-year rise in two months.
