Combined volume of containerized shipments processed in China in February soared 36% year on year to 18.29 million TEUs, according to statistics compiled by the nation’s Ministry of Transport (MOT). In breakdown, 13.66 million TEUs were carried to and from coastal ports, up 34%, while the balance of two million TEUs were handled at inland river ports, which swelled a more favorable 56.3%. Shanghai was responsible for 3.41 million TEUs, up 26.2%, which was a new February record at the port. Other ports enjoyed notable improvements in container lifting as well, coming back from February 2020, when they suffered year-on-year decreases due to the escalation of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the first two months, a total of 42.36 million TEUs were moved to and from China, up 22%, consisting of 37.74 million TEUs to and from coastal ports, up 21%, and two million TEUs to and from inland river ports, up 31%.
