The Vietnam Maritime Administration (Vinamarine) has advised 12 foreign-based shipping lines doing business in Vietnam of its initiative to launch an investigation into their rate and surcharge practices in a bid to crack down on unreasonable freight rates and fees which would give rise to difficulties for importers and exporters.

The investigation will be instituted by an ad-hoc team composed of representatives from the Ministries of Transportation, Industry and Trade, and Finance and Vinamarine. They will specifically look into whether ocean freight rates, surcharges and ocean shipping services having been applied since the beginning of the year comply with the nation's regulations.

Shipping lines involved are CMA CGM, COSCO, Evergreen, Hapag-Lloyd, HMM, Interasia Lines, Maersk, MSC, Ocean Network Express (ONE), OOCL, PIL and Yang Ming.
