Container exports from Japan to China swelled 6.8% to 908,398 tons in November 2020, enjoying a year-on-year improvement for five months in a row, according to trade statistics provided by the Ministry of Finance (MOF). To meet growth in demand for corrugated board in China, those of wood pulp, wastepaper and cardboard increased notably. In terms of value, in contrast, they shrank 0.5% to ¥716.8 billion, suffering the first year-on-year decline in five months.

The MOF trade statistics, which were compiled by the Japan Maritime Center (JMC), indicated that imports from China to Japan waned 3.4% to 1,747,394 tons, registering a year-on-year reduction for the seventh consecutive month. On a value scale, they fell 0.2% to ¥1.097 trillion, which diminished from a year earlier for five straight months.
