South Korea's Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries plans to strengthen investigations and supervision of the container shipping market in order to establish good order in the market by preventing the rise of unfair shipping rates that increase the burden on domestic export companies ahead of the Chinese New Year. In particular, the ministry will investigate whether the rate disclosure system introduced to prevent excessive increase in ocean freight rates or unreasonable low-cost dumping, etc., is being properly followed, especially on the routes from Korea to North America and Europe, which are the most burdensome for Korean shippers due to soaring ocean freight.
