The Port of Tokyo handled 273,258 TEUs of loaded international-trade containers in October 2020, which declined 1.3% year on year, according to preliminary statistics unveiled by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG)’s Bureau of Port and Harbor. Exports increased 4% to 81,026 TEUs, but imports decreased a mild 3.4% to 192,232 TEUs. Empty containers totaled 82,582 TEUs, down 9.4%.

In January-October, full oceangoing containers amounted to a total of 2,584,117 TEUs, down 5.8%, consisting of 712,364 TEUs of outbound containers, down 7.2%, and 1,871,753 TEUs of imbound containers, down 5.3%. Empties came to 950,822 TEUs in total, down 3.6%.
