Containerized exports from Japan to China grew 17.7% to 1,008,861 tons in October, thanks to notable increases in wood pulp / wastepaper / paperboard and plastics / plastic products, according to statistics unveiled by the Japan Maritime Center (JMC). They enjoyed a year-on-year rise for four months in a row and exceeded the one-million-ton line for the first time since October 2018. In terms of value, they surged 10.8% to ¥797 billion, registering a year-on-year increase for four months running.

On the other hand, imports from China to Japan shrank 4% to 1,671,517 tons, suffering a year-on-year contraction for the sixth consecutive month, said the JMC statistics, which had been compiled with trade data provided by the Ministry of Finance (MOF). On a value scale, they waned 0.7% to ¥1.069 trillion, incurring a year-on-year decline for four straight months.
