Taiwan's major ports exported and imported a total of 221,230 TEUs of containers directly to and from China in September, which swelled 9.92% year on year from 201,273 TEUs, according to the state’s Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC).

In the first nine months (January-September), they processed 1,888,654 TEUs in total, which grew 3.02% from 1,833,242 TEUs. By port, accumulated container throughput improved at Keelung, Taichung and Taipei, which went up 7.84% to 467,694 TEUs, up 7.24% to 442,360 TEUs and up 21.61% to 104,724 TEUs, respectively. At Kaohsiung, in contrast, container lifting fell 3.01% to 873,829 TEUs.
