Outbound containers to the U.S. from 10 major countries and regions in Asia surged 14.5% year on year to 1,647,777 TEUs in total in September, setting a new record for the month in question, American research company Descartes Datamyne unveiled recently. In the first nine months (January-September), a total of 12,064,146 TEUs were traded on the route, down 2.2%.

By origin, China exported 1,052,967 TEUs in September, up 19.6%, enjoying a year-on-year improvement for four months in a row and holding the largest share of the pie. Ranked second place were containers from Vietnam, which soared 26.9% to 127,370. Finishing in fourth, those from Singapore swelled 13.1% to 74,260 TEUs. Coming in third place, in contrast, exports from South Korea fell 8.7% to 125,027 TEUs. At the bottom of the top five, those from Taiwan shrank 3.5% to 73,889 TEUs. The ninth largest source was Japan, from which 32,708 TEUs were shipped, down 2%.
