Container exports to the U.S. from 10 major countries and regions in Asia surged 10.6% to 1,675,313 TEUs in August, setting a new monthly record, according to Descartes Datamyne. In the first eight months (January-August), however, they fell 4.4% to 10,418,472 TEUs.

Referring to Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) and bill-of-lading (B/L) data provided by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the U.S. research company said that in August, containers from China soared 19% to 1,068,257 TEUs. In contrast, those from South Korea shrank 6.5% to 156,528 TEUs but managed to finish in second place. Vietnam exported 125,875 TEUs, which increased a notable 18.5% and came in third. In fourth place, those from Singapore amounted to 72,642 TEUs, up 6.3%. The fifth greatest source was Taiwan, which shipped 69,065 TEUs, down 14.8%. On the other hand, those from India enjoyed a double-digit improvement of 10% to total 44,568 TEUs, ranked in seventh. Exports from Japan plunged 19.4% to 33,225 TEUs, falling down to ninth place.
