Drewry's composite World Container index increased by 3.2% to $2,058.90 per 40ft container, updated Thursday, August 6, 2020.

The average composite index for year-to-date is $1,701 per 40ft container, which is $292 higher than the five-year average of $1,409 per 40ft container.

Spot rates on the trade lane from Shanghai to Rotterdam swelled 4% or $72 to $1,856 for a 40ft container while rates from Shanghai to Genoa remained unchanged at $1,982 per FEU.

Rates on the Transpacific trade continued to increase. On Shanghai - Los Angeles the freight rate nudged up by 3% or $90 to $3,024 per FEU, topping a $3,000 mark while rates on Shanghai - New York also rose by 4% or $125 to $ 3,510 per FEU.
