The overall volume of containerized shipments (local and feeder containers) traded in both directions between South Korea and China in January-April decreased 3.7% from the corresponding four months of 2019 to 955,495 TEUs, according to statistics compiled by the Yellow Sea Liner Shipping Council (YSLSC). Although impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, however, the route only incurred a single-digit year-on-year contraction in container movement. Local cargo accounted for 882,659 TEUs, down 3.28%, and feeder cargo, 72,836 TEUs, down 7.9%.

Containers from South Korea to China amounted to 357,760 TEUs, down 2.8%. Local containers only fell 1.9% to 333,968 TEUs, but feeder containers plunged a much severer 14.3% to 23,792 TEUs. From China to South Korea, meanwhile, 597,735 TEUs were moved, down 4.1%. Local containers numbered 548,691 TEUs, down 4.1%, while feeder containers totaled 49,044 TEUs, down 4.4%.
