The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is posing a high risk to global trade, driving down freight rates on many trade routes, according to a report on the market for exporting containerized shipments from China for the month of March 2020, unveiled by the nation’s Ministry of Transport (MOT). The China Containerized Freight Index (CCFI) for the month in question, published by the Shanghai Shipping Exchange (SSE), averaged 899.61 points, down 3.3% from February. Due to sluggish container movement, the Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI) fell 2% to 890.96 points on average.
