The volume of containerized shipments moved by ferry between South Korea and China plunged 28.1% year on year from 54,599 TEUs to 39,251 TEUs in January due to sluggish freight movement during the Lunar New Year holidays (Jan. 24-30).

China has extended the Lunar New Year holidays owing to the expansion of the novel coronavirus infection. Resulting from subsequent delays in the resumption of operations at manufacturing facilities, container throughput shrank to about one-tenth from a year earlier in mid-February. Although it has now recovered to 50-60%, it is still projected to remain weak in March.
