The Japanese Chamber of Commerce (JCC) in Bangkok and the Bangkok office of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) on Feb. 14 unveiled the results of a survey that they had conducted among Japanese enterprises doing business in Thailand on the impacts of novel coronavirus-infected pneumonia that they had had. The questionnaire was given on Feb. 5-13 among 47 members of the JCC executive board committee, 40 of which answered questions.

When asked how their business performances had been influenced, 50% of the respondents answered they had had adverse impacts in various degrees, accounting for the largest part of the pie, while 23% did not know at that time how they had been affected. In respect to negative impacts on business operations, 60% of the 40 members feared that sales quantity would go down if the global economy slows down, holding the largest share. Ranked second, 55% projected that procuring from China parts and components, raw and intermediate materials, completed products and others would be delayed or discontinued. Regarding other procurement means, 78% indicated they are considering importing such commodities from other countries and regions than China.
