Jawaharlal Nehru Custom House has issued a public notice which allows importers having Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) status in Nhava Sheva and those availing direct port delivery (DPD) facility for containerized cargo to pay Terminal Handling Charges (THCs) directly to terminal operators instead of paying through shipping lines.
Terminal Handling Charges are levied by ports/terminals to the shipping lines and shipping lines in turn collect these charges from the importers.
Eligible importers who have already opened personal deposit accounts with the terminal operators may pay THCs directly to the respective terminals. Those who do not may open personal deposits with the concerned ports/terminals and pay THCs directly to them.
