Chinese ports performed well in November, processing a total of 22.21 million TEUs of containers, up 4% year on year, according to statistics compiled by the nation’s Ministry of Transport (MOT). Coastal ports were responsible for 19.25 million TEUs, up 3.7%. In the first 11 months (January-November), they handled 239.5 million TEUs in total, up 4.5%. Meanwhile, containers to and from inland river ports accounted for 2.69 million TEUs in November, up 6%, and 27.41 million TEUs in January-November, up 8.6%.
The Port of Shanghai processed 3.55 million TEUs in November, up 1.4%. In the 11months in question, it handled 40.04 million TEUs, enjoying a lead of some 6 million TEUs over Singapore, the second busiest container ports in the world, to and from which 34 million TEUs were moved.
