The Port of New York and New Jersey monthly cargo volumes continue to increase during the month of September. Total volume for September 2019 was 624,961 TEUs, up 3.6% from 603,034 TEUs in September 2018. In the first nine months, throughput totaled 5,620,381 TEUs.

Import loads for the month of September totaled 315,866 TEUs, up 3.9 percent from the same month last year. For the period January through September 2019, the port imported loads reached 2,841,441 TEUs, up 4.6 percent year on year. Import empties are up 6.2 percent in January through September 2019 versus the same period in 2018.

Export loads for the month of September totaled 116,231 TEUs, up 0.4 percent on year. For the first nine months, exports loads reached 1,103,001 TEUs, a decline of 1.0 percent year on year. Export empties totaled 1,662,821 TEUs, representing an increase of 12.1 percent.
