The Port of Hong Kong handled 1.468 million TEUs of containers in September, down 1.3%, registering a year-on-year contraction for 20 consecutive months, according to statistics compiled by the Hong Kong Marine and Port Board (HKMPB). The Kwai Tsing Container Terminals were responsible for 1.148 million TEUs, down 3.8%, incurring a year-on-year decrease for 15 months running. Meanwhile, the remaining 320,000 TEUs were processed in midstream operations and at the River Trade Terminal, up 8.7%, which enjoyed a year-on-year improvement for two back-to-back months.

In the first nine months (January-September), total throughput at Hong Kong was 13.684 million TEUs, down 6.5%. To and from Kwai Tsing, 10.63 million TEUs were moved, down 1.7%. Containers handled in midstream operation and at the River Trade Terminal amounted to 3.054 million TEUs, down 1.7%.
