The number of secondhand vehicles—i.e., passenger cars, cargo freighters, buses and electric vehicles (EVs)—exported from Japan in July increased 2.2% to 114,528 units, thanks to growth in those destined to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Russia and Myanmar, according to figures compiled by the International Auto Trade Association (iATA) from trade statistics provided by the Ministry of Finance (MOF). The number improved year on year for the first time in five months. In the first seven months (January-July), however, the total decreased 4.1% to 749,554 units.

Looking at exports in July by destination, 14,394 units were moved to the UAE, which surged 41.4% and accounted for the largest part of the pie. Ranked second were those to Russia, which swelled a favorable 39.1% to number 10,942. In Russia, however, the regulations on right-hand-drive microbuses and large cargo carriers were enhanced in July. Exports to New Zealand were, in contrast, dull, falling 5.7% to 9,242 units, coming in third place.
