Containers to the U.S. from 10 major countries and regions in Asia increased 3.2% from a year earlier to 1,529,701 TEUs in July, making the first year-on-year improvement in two months, according to statistics unveiled by American data provider Descartes Datamyne. In the first seven months (January-July), however, they declined a minute 0.4% to 9,380,501 TEUs.
Meanwhile, inbound containers to Asia fell 9.1% to 451,838 TEUs in June and 3.3% to 2,960,200 TEUs in the first six months (January-June).
Looking at containerized shipments moved outbound from Asia to the U.S. in July by origin, the Descartes Datamyne statistics, which had been compiled from U.S. Customs and Boarder Protection's Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) data, indicated that those from China fell 2.2% to 916,910 TEUs, suffering a year-on-year shrinkage for six months in a row, but managed to maintain the leading share of the pie. Finishing in second place, containers from South Korea grew 3.4% to 156,118 TEUs. Ranked third were those from Vietnam, which surged 37.3% to 100,650 TEUs, enjoying a year-on-year increase for the eighth consecutive month. Containers from Taiwan also swelled notably, soaring 21% to 94,963 TEUs. Also brisk were those from India and Thailand, which ballooned 20.7% to 45,126 TEUs and 26.4% to 38,527 TEUs, respectively.
