The Port of Hong Kong has chalked up container throughput declines for 14 months in a row. In March the territory handled 1.582 million TEUs, down 2.8% compared to the throughput of 1.628 million TEUs in March 2018, according to data from the Hong Kong Maritime and Port Board (HKMB).

Volumes handled at Kwai Tsing terminals dropped 1.6% to 1.232 million TEUs while midstream and river traffic hit 350,000 TEUs, down 7% year on year.

For the first three months, throughput declined 9.7% to 4.414 million TEUs. Kwai Tsing terminals handled 3.469 million TEUs, down 8.7% from a year earlier while midstream and river traffic amounted to 944,000 TEUs, down 13.3% on year.
