Containerized shipments traded between Taiwan and China amounted to 146,801 TEUs in February, decreasing 8.75% year on year from 160,877 TEUs, according to statistics compiled by the former’s Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC). A major factor was a decline in transport demand during the Lunar New Year holidays commemorated in both economies. In the first two months (January-February), 373,486 TEUs were transported on the route, shrinking a minute 0.86% from 376,716 TEUs.

Looking at January-February container throughput at ports in Taiwan, Kaohsiung processed 190,116 TEUs, down 3.22%; Keelung, 86,407 TEUs, down 5.41%; Taichung, 79,002 TEUs, up 3.9% and Taipei, 17,961 TEUs, up 39.45%.
