The Tokyo Metropolitan Government's Bureau of Port and Harbor has announced the Port of Tokyo handled 49,828,000 tons of international shipments in 2018, down 0.6% year on year. Exports waned 1.6% to 13,289,000 tons, while imports fell 0.2% to 36,539,000 tons.
Containerized shipments, meanwhile, swelled 1.6% to 4,570,795 TEUs, setting a new yearly record. Inbound containers increased 1.1% to 2,453,332 TEUs, and outbound Boxes hiked 2.1% to 2,117,463 TEUs.
