A total of 1,423,275 TEUs of containers were exported to the U.S. from 10 countries and regions in Asia in November, which increased 4% from a year earlier and posted a year-on-year improvement for 21 consecutive months, according to statistics released by American research company Descartes DataMyne. In the first 11 months (January-November), 15,292,248 TEUs were traded on the route, up 6.8%.

Looking at containers shipped from Asia to the U.S. in November more precisely by country/region, the statistics, compiled from Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) and bill of lading (B/L) data provided by the U.S. Customs and Boarder Protection (CBP), indicated that those from China swelled 4% to 878,232 TEUs, enjoying the leading share of the pie. Ranked second were those from South Korea, which grew 8.8% to 150,682 TEUs. Exports from Taiwan, finishing in third place, were more favorable, surging 12.9% to 83,730 TEUs. In contrast, those from Vietnam, the fourth largest source of containerized shipments to the U.S., diminished 0.6% to 67,500 TEUs. Containers from Hong Kong fell 9.4% to 59,223 TEUs, but managed to come in fifth place. Hong Kong was followed by Singapore, from which 54,851 TEUs were shipped, up 6.5%.

Japan was the seventh largest source, exporting 48,336 TEUs, up 3.9%. Including transshipment (T/S) containers, Japan handled 58,000 TEUs in total, up 6.9%.

Containers exported from Japan and transshipped in South Korea ballooned 50.4% to 9,368 TEUs. By port of origin, those from Hakata soared 77.2% to 1,742 TEUs, accounting for the largest part of the total. Coming in second place, containers from Kobe skyrocketed 128.9% to 1,478 TEUs. Those from Yokohama, finishing in third, were also brisk, jumping 11.3% to 1,006 TEUs.
