The Japan Maritime Center unveiled on Nov. 22 that container exports from Japan to China increased 3.1% from a year earlier to 870,926 tons in September. In terms of value, however, they declined 0.2% to \674.6 billion, incurring the first year-on-year contraction in seven months.

The JMC, which had compiled a report on container movement between the two Asian economies from statistical data on trade provided by the Ministry of Finance (MOF), added that imports from China to Japan swelled 0.5% to 1,730,831 tons. Thanks to briskness in waste paper from Japan, they posted a year-on-year improvement for four months in a row. On a value scale, they increased 1.9% to \1.103 trillion, enjoying year-on-year growth for the sixth straight month.
