The number of used vehicles - i.e., passenger cars, cargo trucks and buses - plunged 17.7% to 90,302 units in September, posting the first year-on-year decrease in 23 months, according to a tally kept by the International Auto Trade Association (iATA) from trade statistics provided by the Ministry of Finance (MOF).
By destination, exports to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) diminished 17.5% to 8,788 units but managed to hold the leading share of the pie. Finishing in second place, those to South Africa, in contrast, swelled 17% to 7,375 units. The third largest destination was Russia, to which 6,695 units were exported, down 3.5%. Those to New Zealand dove 52.1% to 5,303 units, going down to sixth place, as they were severely impacted by the extermination of brown marmorated stink bugs. In contrast, those to Sri Lanka were brisk, soaring 54.4% to 4,890 units.
