Ports in China handled a total of 185,976,400 TEUs of containers in January-September, which grew 4.9% from a year earlier and reached a new high for the nine months in question, according to the nation’s Ministry of Transport (MOT). Throughput increased both at coastal and inland river ports, which went up 5% to 165,074,400 TEUs and up 4.1% to 20,902,900 TEUs, respectively.

The top 10 coastal ports and their performances were as follows. Shanghai processed 31,354,500 TEUs, up 4.9%; Ningbo-Zhoushan, 20,135,400 TEUs, up 7.3%; Shenzhen, 19,085,200 TEUs, up 0.8%; Guangzhou, 15,955,700 TEUs, up 7.5%; Qingdao, 14,346,000 TEUs, up 4.5%; Tianjin, 12,115,300 TEUs, up 0.3%; Xiamen, 8,008,400 TEUs, up 5.2%; Dalian, 7,639,900 TEUs, up 0.3%; Yingkou, 4,775,800 TEUs, up 2.8% and Lianyungang, 3,566,600 TEUs, up 0.3%.

As for volumes at inland river ports, 4,782,800 TEUs were moved to and from Suzhou, up 8.3%; 2,898,700 TEUs to and from Foshan, down 0.6%; 2,423,400 TEUs to and from Nanjing, up 2%; 1,086,300 TEUs to and from Wuhan, up 9.3% and 597,500 TEUs to and from Jiangmen, up 0.3%.
