The Shipping Ministry India has taken an initiative to exchange trade related documents electronically through Port Community System (PCS), a centralized web-based message exchange platform for the entire Indian maritime community operated by the Indian Ports Association (IPA). The noteworthy feature of the PCS is its direct link to ICEGate (e-commerce portal of Central Board of Excise and Customs), the Indian Customs portal site.
The move is based on the recommendation submitted by a panel established at the request of the Prime Minister's Office in May this year to facilitate import and export procedures.
A number of new functions have been added to the PCS during the past year, focused on the facilitation of doing import and export business, including e-Delivery Order, e-Invoicing and e-Payment. Those function through the PCS will be mandatory at the nation's all ports, terminals and CFSs/ICDs by December 2018.
