The Port of Yokohama handled 1.48 million TEUs of international and domestic containers in total in the first half (January-June) of 2018, rising 2.4% from a year earlier. Transshipment (T/S) containers were particularly brisk, soaring 43.4% to 63,000 TEUs.

Oceangoing containers increased 3.1% to 1.33 million TEUs, achieving a year-on-year improvement as they did in the first half of 2017. In breakdown, exports swelled 3.1% to 710,000 TEUs, while imports hiked 3.1% to 620,000 TEUs. By month, international T/S containers rose year on year for 24 months in a row from June 2016.

On a tonnage scale, container exports to and imports from Yokohama totaled 19.54 million tons, climbing 3.5%, with the former going up 6.2% to 8.36 million tons and the latter, up 1.6% to 11.19 million tons.
