Ports in China processed a total of 142,844,400 TEUs of containers in the first seven months (January-July) of 2018, which increased 4.8% from a year earlier to reach an all-time high, according to the nation's Ministry of Transport (MOT). Container lifting swelled at both coastal and inland river ports, which hiked 5% to 126,359,500 TEUs and 3.7% to 15,924,800 TEUs.

As for the five leading coastal ports, Shanghai handled 24,057,300 TEUs, up 4.4%; Ningbo-Zhoushan, 15,436,300 TEUs, up 5.9%; Shenzhen, 14,352,200 TEUs, up 1.1%; Guangzhou, 12,362,200 TEUs, up 8.5% and Qingdao, 9,381,200 TEUs up 3.2%.

Looking at containers to and from inland river ports, meanwhile, 3,617,900 TEUs were moved to and from Suzhou, up 7.1%; 2,216,800 TEUs to and from Foshan, down 1.4%; 1,856,400 TEUs to and from Nanjing, up 1%; 867,000 TEUs to and from Wuhan, up 13.1% and 467,600 TEUs to and from Jiangmen, up 0.6%.
