Japan exported 981,744 tons of containerized shipments to China in April, according to a report compiled by the Japan Maritime Center (JMC) from statistical data on trade provided by the Ministry of Finance (MOF). Japan’s exports fell 2.3% from a year earlier, posting a year-on-year decline for eight months in a row, due to the import bans that Beijing had implemented on waste plastic and other waste products. In terms of value, however, they surged 13.7% to \741.6 billion, growing year on year for two months running, thanks to robustness in pulp and other completed products.

The JMC report indicated that imports from China to Japan decreased from a year earlier, too, waning 1.4% to 1,807,787 tons, which suffered a year-on-year shrinkage for two back-to-back months. On a value scale, in contrast, they improved 0.9% to \1.016 trillion, enjoying the first year-on-year improvement in two months.
