The Japan Maritime Center (JMC) unveiled on Feb. 22 that Japan exported 940,405 tons of containerized cargo to China in December 2017, which plunged 16.1% from a year earlier and suffered a year-on-year contraction for four months running. In terms of value, on the other hand, they surged 12.5% to \810 billion and achieved a double-digit improvement for 12 straight months.

With trade statistics compiled by the Ministry of Finance (MOF), the JMC said that imports from China to Japan rose 3.8% to 1,899,156 tons, which marked a year-on-year expansion for three months in a row. On a yen scale, they increased 7.9% to \1.123 trillion, accomplishing a year-on-year enlargement for the eighth consecutive month.

On a yearly basis, containers from Japan to China hiked 2.6% from the previous year to 11.53 million tons, enjoying the first year-on-year rise in seven years. They were valued at \8.176 trillion, which soared 20.4% and achieved the first year-on-year improvement in three years. Imports from China to Japan accomplished the first year-on-year augmentation in three years. In value, they climbed 6.1% to \12.97 trillion, marking the first year-on-year increase in two years.
