The Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI) stood at 883.59 points last week, going up 2.9% from the previous week, according to the Shanghai Shipping Exchange (SSE).
The container spot rate, which does not include terminal handling charges (THCs), for shipments from Shanghai to Europe inched up 0.6% to US$912 per TEU in the week ending Friday, while Asia - Mediterranean saw a 3.2% increase to $797 per TEU thanks to the cargo rush ahead of the Chinese Lunar New Year holidays, according to the Shanghai Shipping Exchange.
On the route from Shanghai to North America, transport demand was robust. The spot rate for containers to the west coast was $1,552 per FEU and to the east coast, $2,843 per FEU, which, as such, hiked 6.5% and 3.0%, respectively.
