According to statistics compiled by Taiwan’s Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC), a total of 2,082,492 TEUs of containers were traded between Taiwan and China in the 11 months from January to November 2017, which decreased 0.62% from the corresponding months of 2016. In November alone, 216,674 TEUs were moved between the economies, which fell 5.6% year on year to mark a new monthly record low in four years.
Braking down the 11 months’ container throughput by port, Kaohsiung was responsible for 1,214,674 TEUs; Keelung, 514,156 TEUs; Taichung, 460,965 TEUs and Taipei, 92,697 TEUs.
