Major shipping companies moved a total of 1,152 million TEUs of containers among 13 countries and regions in Asia in November, which surged 14.1% from a year earlier and marked a year-on-year improvement for eight months in a row. In breakdown, dry containers soared 13.9% to 1.085 million TEUs, while reefer containers increases a more significant 16.9% to the balance of 68,000 TEUs. In the 11 months from January, they handled 11.749 million TEUs in total, which rose 1.3%.

In November, exports from Japan to the 12 remaining economies grew 11.9% to 126,000 TEUs. By destination, those to northern China went up 27.1% to 18,000 TEUs; to central China, up 0.3% to 10,000 TEUs; to Fujian Province, up 33.1% to 1,000 TEUs and to southern China, up 11.2% to 11,000 TEUs. In contrast, containers to Hong Kong plunged 13.3% to 10,000 TEUs. Exports to Taiwan were up 0.9% to 17,000 TEUs; to the Philippines, up 9.7% to 4,000 TEUs; to Cambodia, up 21.2% to 300 TEUs; to Vietnam, up 11.6%; to Malaysia, up 9% to 7,000 TEUs; to Indonesia, up 13.9% to 7,000 TEUs and to Myanmar, up 64.6% to 300 TEUs. On the other hand, containers to Thailand plummeted 15.2% to 12,000 TEUs, while those to Singapore fell a much milder 0.2% to 3,000 TEUs.

Meanwhile, imports from the 12 countries and regions ballooned 13.1% to 198,000 TEUs. By origin, those from northern China went up 50.7% to 27,000 TEUs; from central China, down 1.3% to 28,000 TEUs; from Fujian, down 5.6% to 10,000 TEUs; from southern China, up 4.8% to 32,000 TEUs and from Hong Kong, down 7.4% to 8,000 TEUs. Imports from Taiwan were up 9.3% to 17,000 TEUs; from Cambodia, up 11.5% to 300 TEUs; from Vietnam, up 1.3% to 12,000 TEUs; from Thailand, up 6.8% to 16,000 TEUs; from Malaysia, up 26.2% to 8,000 TEUs; from Singapore, up 14.1% to 3,000 TEUs; from Indonesia, up 17.2% to 11,000 TEUs and from Myanmar, up 59.3% to 500 TEUs. On the other hand, those from the Philippines suffered a year-on-year decline, falling 6.8% to 8,000 TEUs.
