Major shipping lines moved a total of 1.11 million TEUs of containers in October among 13 countries and regions in Asia, which surged 13.2% from a year earlier and marked a year-on-year increase for the seventh consecutive month. Dry and reefer containers were both massive, going up 13.2% to 1.044 million TEUs and up 14.1% to 66,000 TEUs, respectively. Imports to and exports from Japan both registered double-digit improvements, with the former going up 15.9% to 195,000 TEUs and up 14.8% to 122,000 TEUs.
In the 10 months from January, 10.597 million TEUs were carried in total on the intra-Asia trade route, which remained nearly unchanged from the corresponding months of 2016, rising a minute 0.1%.
