The Indian Ports Association (IPA) recently announced that India’s 11 state-run ports handled a total of 5.244 million TEUs of containers in the seven months from April to October, which increased 6.5% year on year.

By port, Jawaharlal Nehru Port, the nation’s largest container ports, processed 2.786 million TEUs, which went up 5.9%. Chennai was responsible for 909,000 TEUs, up 3.9%, while 454,000 TEUs were carried to and from Kolkata, up 4.6%. Throughput improved 2.6% to 390,000 TEUs at V.O. Chidambaranar Port and a more significant 12.6% to 319,000 TEUs at Cochin. Containers to and from Kandla skyrocketed, growing 12-fold to 57,000 TEUs. Mangalore performed well, too, handling 60,000 TEUs, up 15.4%, while Mumbai and Mormugao did as well, processing 27,000 TEUs, up 3.8%, and 18,000 TEUs, up 5.9%. Containers jumped at Paradip, which rose 200% to 3,000 TEUs. In contrast, Visakhapatnam did not, to and from which 221,000 TEUs were moved, down 0.9%.
