The International Auto Trade Association (iATA) recently reported that a total of 111,666 secondhand vehicles (passenger cars, cargo carriers and buses) were exported from Japan in April, which increased 1.5% from a year earlier and achieved a year-on-year improvement for the sixth consecutive month.

The association, which had gathered statistical data on trade from the Ministry of Finance (MOF), added that in the first four months (January-April), 410,353 units were exported, which grew 3.7%.

Looking more closely at April exports by destination, those to New Zealand grew notably, surging 18.6% to 12,344 units, and came out on top in place of those to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In contrast, those to the UAE plunged 14.1% to 12,203 units, falling down to second place. Finishing in third, exports to Chile soared 12.1% to 10,535 units, while those to Pakistan swelled a remarkable 62.5% to 8,115 units, ranking fourth. Fifth place was taken by those to Kenya, which also increase favorably, going up 49.2% to 7,148 units. On the other hand, exports to Myanmar cut in less than half, falling 54% to 6,749 units and making them step down to sixth place.

As for exports to other destinations, those to Mongolia jumped 76.7% to 5,587 units, while those to Sri Lank almost doubled, growing 97.1% to 2,793 units. However, exports to Singapore and Afghanistan both declined sharply, going down 47.8% to 1,052 units and down 40.7% to 744 units, respectively.
