As congestion is escalating at Yangshan Port in Shanghai, shipping companies and freight forwarders have informed customers that there are long delays in cargo transport. The port jam deteriorated steadily from the beginning to the middle of the month, increasing the average delay per vessel to approximately 53 hours during the three days from April 16 to April 18. There was a dense fog on the sea, in addition, which made the situation even worse. Shanghai International Port (Group) Co., Ltd. (SIPG) has taken several actions, such as sending containers to other terminals in the city, and announced that it will return the port to normal as soon as possible. However, the terminal operator anticipates the congestion will persist until the middle of May.
